A New Year is a time to start fresh and try new things. At ULearn English school in Dublin we love helping people with their goals. Maybe one of yours is learning English or maybe not. Either way here’s how you can keep your New Year’s resolutions and have fun while doing it!

1. Make Simple Goals

Big Goals Feel Hard.

Try making small, easy goals. Instead of saying, “I will get fit,” say, "I will put on my gym clothes and walk to the gym." See how you feel when you get there. We have similar issues with language learners. They say "I must get good at English". But better to say “I will take a free trial class in ULearn next Tuesday.” The first step is the hardest.

Little steps help you see your progress and stay excited.

2. Make a Plan

Plans help you stay on track. At ULearn, we have fun English courses in Dublin that work with your schedule. We encourage students to pick times to:

  • Explore - some trips don't have maps!
  • Study / Work / Train / Play
  • Rest - forming new habits takes time - don't wear yourself out
  • Journal - write down your goals!

When you have a plan, it’s easier to keep your promises to yourself.

3. Celebrate Little Wins

Learning something new can be hard, but don’t give up! Celebrate when you learn a new word or finish a class. Even small steps are a big deal.

Our teachers at ULearn are here to cheer you on and help you feel proud of what you’ve done.

Belief is half the battle won.

4. Find Friends to Help You

It’s more fun to learn with others! At ULearn, you’ll meet students who want to learn English in Dublin too. Talking with friends in class and outside helps you practice and feel supported.

Together, you can cheer each other on and celebrate your wins.

5. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

Sometimes plans change, and that’s okay. If you’re too busy, switch to a smaller goal, like trying a part-time English course in Dublin. Keep going, even if it’s slow.

The most important thing is to keep learning and trying.

6. Use Dublin as Your Playground

Dublin is a great place to live. The people are friendly! You can talk to shopkeepers, visit museums, join local events and of course the pubs are always open. Every time you speak English, you get better.
